Woot woot for Saturday!

Journal Entry: Wed May 2, 2007, 3:59 PM
Woot! I'm so excited. I get to go riding again this Saturday and the stable got new horses a couple weeks ago. I went last Saturday and brought a bunch of people trail riding. Dude, was that dumb. Never ever bring a group of inexperienced riders on trails with horses that aren't programmed to "follow the butt in front of me." My favorite horse is an ex-roper! A gorgeous chestnut named Maytag. Yes, like the washing machine. His previous owners were going to buy a new washing machine. But when the husband returned and his wife asked him "Did you get the Maytag?" he said "Yep, it's outside." She responded "Well, bring it in." "No, I don't think you want it inside." He had found the horse (I didn't quite hear all that the present owners said) and they then became the proud owners of a monstrously tall horse named Maytag. Anyway, this week I'm taking my sister and her husband riding. She was on her college equestrian team but he's never been on a horse before. That means we can't run. Bummer. Oh, what I would give to run with this horse. We couldn't move faster than a trot, and then only for a few paces because few knew how to ride. Oh well, I just can't wait to get back over there and ride him again.

Hey Stinker! I know how to go faster than a trot and so did Katie :D

Katie and I want to go again this summer. So figure out a time when we can all go and it'll be more fun. ok?

Maytag is a beautiful and ironic name!

Phe, your just blessed to be in the company of horses nearly all the time! Bad enough that my dad and I looked up the phone book and got references from various people, looking for trail riding! It's been hell because my dad called all the numbers and not one person has called back! Hopefyully could imagine the pain I was in! *falls* I miss riding and certainly trail riding.
I had too fallen in love with a chestnutthorobred gelding to which I rode on a trail ride a WHILE back! He was so tired when I walked him back in the stall, that when I leaned on him while getting to his stall he leaned on me!! I wanted to marry him! A beautiful strawberry chestnut! To me, he was "my prince."(Yeah I love and respect animals more so then people.

Maytag is in his mid 20s but he doesn't stop moving. When you hook him up to the old fashioned hitching post in front of the barn, he swings his bum around and around trying to get loose. And when you try to mount, he might stand just long enough for you to put your foot in the stirrup but he'll take off as soon as he feels you even begin jump up (and I mean UP, he's upwards of 16hh, I used to ride horses around lower 15hh, so it's difficult getting on). And on the trails, he'll take off at every turn. He's an ex-roper so he can take those turns really fast. It took me a while to get used to his turns because he doesn't just rotate his body, he leans into the turn. He's only been here for a month or two but he had his authority established within days. He isn't rude to the other horses, he just gets huffy when they get more attention. He's a very conceited horse, but I love him anyway. I took my friend out on the trails last weekend and I used Maytag to lead, not a good idea. He would swing his head around every couple of minutes and glare at the other horse as if saying in a grumpy old man sort of manner "Don't even think about it, boy." After about a half hour of holding him at under a canter (stupid horse keeps forgetting he has arthritis and shouldn't be running) he started flinging his head around trying to get the bit between his teeth so he could run. He's a wonderful horse, a bit of a handful, but he's amazing.

Not anymore. I had a QH/APPY and a QH/Paint from the time I was 13 to 20. Had to sell them when I got married. It was a great experience though. I rode/worked at a stable at Quantico that specialized in problem horses and we'd have animals shipped in from all over the world for training. We also trained the Marine horses (and all the cute marines..:P) I miss it alot. Best experience of my life. Me and about six other teenage girls pratically lived there. The owner even built us a clubhouse and we had hammocks so we could stay overnight (which we did about 5 nights a week!)

Ya, I saw about Maytag. It's amazing that someone would buy a 20 year old horse but hopefully it'll be a nice relaxing home.

If this came out jarbled I'm sorry. It's late, but I'm not quite ready for bed yet.

Wow!! that must have been amazing! that would be so much fun, working with horses AND good looking guys all in the same day, getting to stay overnight knowing that you can do it all again the next day. that must have been something.
hey, you said you trained the marine horses? would you mind reading the new journal i put up about this horse i'm working with? he's giving me some problems...to say the least :)
